What is Box D on W-2?
Form W-2 (wage statement) Box D is called the Control Number field. It is usually located below or near the Employer’s Name and Address. The Box D Control Number is a code that uniquely identifies your particular W-2 document in your employer’s records.

What do I do if I don’t have a Box D on my W2?
A Control Number (Box D) is used by many payroll departments to uniquely identify a W-2 in their system. If your W-2 doesn’t have one, it’s no big deal – you can simply leave it blank. The IRS doesn’t care what’s in Box D because its use by payroll departments is optional.
Does 401k employer match go on W2?
